Top 5 neighbourhoods in Seoul
As mentioned in my previous blog post, I’m currently preparing for my move to Seoul in just a few months, and I’m still on the fence about which neighborhood to call my temporary home. To make my decision-making process a bit easier, I’ve decided to write about my favorite neighborhoods in Seoul, and make a top 5 of some that I’m not as familiar with. Even though I’ve lived near Hongdae, been to Itaewon for clubbing, and visited Gangnam for shopping and nightlife, there’s still so much more to discover in this beautiful city.
But first, let me tell you about my experience with the neighborhoods I do know well. Every time I visit Seoul, I always end up staying in Hongdae however I did visit Itaewon and Gangnam often as well. Let me break down these three neighbourhoods first!
Hongdae
Known for its youthful and vibrant energy, Hongdae is a great neighborhood for those who love art, music, and nightlife. It’s home to several universities, so you’ll find plenty of college students here. Hongdae is filled with street performers, indie music clubs, and unique shops. The area also boasts plenty of delicious restaurants and cafes.
Gangnam
Famous for its high-end shopping and luxurious lifestyle, Gangnam is the place to be if you’re looking for a more upscale neighborhood. You’ll find designer boutiques, high-end department stores, and trendy restaurants and cafes. The area is also home to several entertainment companies, so you may spot some K-pop stars while you’re here.
Itaewon
Known for its multicultural vibe, Itaewon is a great neighborhood for those who love to try different foods and explore different cultures. The area is home to a large international community, so you’ll find plenty of foreign restaurants and shops. Itaewon also has a lively nightlife scene with many bars and clubs.
Now, let’s get into the top 5 neighborhoods that I’ve been researching:
Bukchon Hanok Village: This neighborhood is perfect for those who want a more traditional Korean experience. The area is filled with beautiful hanok (traditional Korean houses), small shops, and cafes. It’s a quieter area with a more relaxed vibe, perfect for taking a break from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Yeonnam-dong: If you’re a fan of street art, cafes, and vintage shops, Yeonnam-dong is the place for you. It’s a trendy neighborhood that’s quickly becoming a popular tourist spot. The area is filled with unique boutiques and coffee shops, perfect for spending a leisurely afternoon.
Hannam-dong: This neighborhood is known for its high-end boutiques, fine dining, and beautiful architecture. It’s a posh area that’s perfect for those who want to experience luxury in Seoul. If you’re a fan of designer fashion and upscale dining, Hannam-dong is the place to be.
Seongsu-dong: Seongsu-dong is a hidden gem that’s perfect for those who love design and creativity. The area is filled with art galleries, independent cafes, and unique shops. It’s a perfect place to explore and discover hidden gems.
Euljiro: If you’re a history buff, Euljiro is the perfect neighborhood for you. It’s an area filled with traditional Korean markets, antique shops, and art galleries. The neighborhood has a rich history and is perfect for exploring and learning more about Seoul’s past.
After researching these neighborhoods, I’m excited to explore each of them and see if any of them might be the perfect fit for me. But of course, there are still many other neighborhoods in Seoul that I haven’t mentioned, and if you have any recommendations, feel free to comment them below!
